MIRI: Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association Sarawak (WEPS) will organise ‘Empowering Women Seminar’ on Sept 28 to celebrate this year’s state-level Women’s Day which falls on the same day.

WEPS president, Dr Loh Yunn Hua, said the seminar to be held from 1pm to 5.30pm at Grand Palace Hotel is a way of giving recognition to women who are expected to play an increasingly vital role in the development of Sarawak, in particular, and nation-building in general.

The seminar objectives are in line with WEPS objectives: to encourage entrepreneurship among women by empowering them with relevant knowledge including on financial matters, and good health.

“Six local speakers specialising in their respective fields will talk on different topics relevant to this year’s theme, ‘Women in Safety and Security’,” said Dr Loh to reporters yesterday.

Dr Loh herself will talk on ‘Wellness in Wowen’ to be followed by five other speakers.

“Since health is wealth, we also touch on health screening, correct medication practice and for this, a pharmacist, Chin Yew Moi, will deliver a talk on ‘Taking your medicine correctly’ while Taichi master, Dr Lam Chin Chyou from Taichi Academy, Kuching will talk on ‘Taichi: An Investment for Health’.”

“Women also need to take care of their physical security in order to function with peace of mine which will be discussed by a psychologist, Dr Adeline Wong, who is also the Dean of Student Affairs at Curtin University Malaysia,” said Dr Loh.

She stressed that although the main target audience is women, men who are interested in self-improvement and increase their knowledge on medical, financial and physical security are encouraged to attend.
