KUCHING: A senior citizen was seriously injured in an accident involving a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle and a container lorry near Setubah Bridge in Sibu yesterday.

The victim, Barian Ranga, 71, was heading towards Tanjung Manis when the container lorry rammed the rear of his 4WD at around 10.30am.

The impact of the crash caused him to lose control of the wheel and skidded off the road before landing in the bushes along the road.

11 personnel in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle from Sg Merah fire station led by Senior Fire Officer Mohd Ikmal rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 10.40am.

Barian, who sustained head injuries in the incident, was brought out of the 4WD by firefighters and given treatment by EMRS personnel before sending him to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

The container lorry driver was not injured in the incident.
