MUKAH: An elderly motorcyclist died from his injuries after his motorcycle was believed to have been rear-ended by a car along KM121, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu yesterday.

Mukah district police chief DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias in a statement, said the accident happened around 1pm when the victim was riding his motorcycle alone.

Investigation found that as the victim was about to enter a junction, a car driven by a 21-year-old man, wanted to overtake the victim but instead, the car rear-ended him.

Due to the impact, the victim was thrown into a drain and he sustained severe head injuries and a broken right leg.

“The victim identified as Sandai Mengong, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sungai Arip health clinic.

“His body was later taken to Mukah Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said.

Rizal added that the 21-year-old driver was arrested under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987 on suspicion of committing an offence under Section 41(1) of the same Act.
