KUCHING: In a press statement issued yesterday, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said that prior to the survey conducted last Saturday in response to a newspaper story of a crocodile at SK Sungai Arang, SFC’s Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) had in fact conducted a croc removal operation at the same location last March but the operation failed to snare any rogue crocodile.

“We will now carry out another survey to enable us to locate the ‘favourite’ spots of the crocodiles so that we can better plan our next course of action such as deciding on the most suitable culling method and identifying areas for Crocodile Removal Zones (CRZs). In the meantime, we would be erecting signage at the area to warn the locals of crocodile presence in their river system within this week,” the statement added.

The SFC statement went on to say that the survey would run in parallel with a Communication Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Programme as a prelude to a culling exercise for the Sungai Arang river system.
