SIBU: Shipbuilding industry players are looking forward to better days ahead although the global economy has not had much cause for celebration.
Sibu Shipyards Association (SSA) chairman Ting Hua Ang, while fully aware of the situation, pointed out that growth and spending have continued to move forward despite an unfavourable global economy in recent years.
Although the current situation is quite challenging, he is inclined to think the resilience of the global economy may yet again spring another surprise.
“A new year symbolises a new beginning, a new outlook, new challenges and new gains, he said.
“With the arrival of 2023, I believe that everyone is full of hope and passion, hoping that the new year will bring success and good luck to themselves.
On the same note he called on shipbuilding industry players here to maintain cooperation, be united and support each other to further develop the industry.
“I believe that collective participation is an overall advantage, a shared commitment and honour.
“I hope all members in the industry will take care and help each other to grow together,” he said at the SSA’s pre Chinese New Year gathering held in a hotel here on Friday night (Jan 13).
Ting said SSA which was established in 1974 had over the years grown in its reputation.
“Our products are world-renowned and services are recognised by international standards. This glory and achievement have been attained over the past 48 years.
“The trials, the failures that we encountered, and the crises faced have created today’s success. This honour and achievement belongs to everyone because it is our past industrious efforts that have laid the foundation for today and to be prepared for future development,” he said.
At the event, angpows were also given to children aged below 12 as well as to those who were born in the the Year of Rabbit.
Quiz contest, dance performance, Chinese New Year songs and lucky draws were among the entertainment programmes held.
