KUCHING: The state recorded one new Covid-19 case on Sunday (Oct 4), bringing the total number of positive cases to 717.

In a statement issued today (Oct 4), Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that this case was detected in Sibu, turning the district into a yellow zone.

The committee revealed the 717th case is a local man who worked as a shipyard worker in Sibu up until Sept 30.

“On Oct 2, he and his colleagues were arranged to undergo a health examination and Covid-19 screening at one of the government clinics located in Kota Samarahan prior to working with a private company in Kuching.

“However, the result of the rT-PCR screening was found to be positive and he was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment on the same day.

“He has not travelled abroad or visited any high-risk areas recently, which makes this a local infection,” the statement said, adding that the case was asymptomatic.
