SIBU: The 3rd Sarawak Games (Suksar) will be hosted in Sibu in January 2024, said Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

The Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development said Suksar serves as a platform to identify potential athletes to represent Sarawak in the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) next year.

“For Suksar, we want to focus more on talent scouting and athlete selection as the final selection for our team (in SUKMA) next year,” he said when met by reporters after Sambutan Hari Sukan Negara Sarawak here at Dataran Tun Tunku Bujang today (Oct 28).

He said that approximately 800 athletes will be involved in 13 sports contested in Suksar, however for the swimming and diving event it will be held in Kuching as Sibu has yet to have facilities that can cater the sport.

“Suksar is not just for athletes. We use Suksar as a platform to prepare our technical staff for (SUKMA) next year. So it’s not just for our athletes.
