KUCHING: Sibu is now a yellow zone after reporting one positive Covid-19 case of local infection today.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that the case, namely case 1,081, involves a local man who was found to be positive for the virus after he underwent screening on Wednesday before returning for work in Papua New Guinea.

This case was categorised as a local infection which then changed Sibu’s zone status from green to yellow.

Further investigation and contact tracing for this case are underway.

Following this, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting called upon Sibu residents to take precautions.

“According to the latest report, we could be in for an outbreak of cases. This time, it is in the public area.

“For those vulnerable (or at high risk), please avoid crowded spaces and go out only when absolutely necessary. The rest (of Sibu people), please take precautions with social distancing, wear your face masks, and sanitise your hands,” he said in a Facebook post today.
