SIBU: Members of Parliament (MP) from component parties of the Unity Government have been urged to actively advocate for the betterment of Sarawak instead of merely complaining.

Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian stressed that the MPs are elected by the people of Sarawak and therefore have a responsibility to fight for the state’s interests rather than voice grievances.

“We must tell component parties’ MPs that they are also Sarawakians elected by the people of Sarawak,” he said.

He made these remarks at the Ngiling Bidai 2023 event organised by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch, here Saturday (June 10).

Dr Sim who is also SUPP President said it is inappropriate to claim that the Sarawak government has sufficient funds and yet still waits for financial support from Peninsular Malaysia.

He said Sarawak is entitled to financial allocation from the federal government and that it must also be fair when giving allocations.

“If the federal government gives money to Kelantan and Sabah for their water projects, Sarawak though has money, it is the federal government’s obligation and responsibility to also give to Sarawak. If not, it is not fair,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, on SUPP’s 64th Anniversary, Dr Sim expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all party members.
“As we celebrate our 64th anniversary, we must not forget that SUPP originated in Sibu. I extend my thanks to all the supporters and dedicated members who have served and sacrificed for a long time, remaining loyal.

“It is because of all of us that SUPP exists today, unlike other parties in Sarawak that have faded away. We will strengthen SUPP even further. I promise that the new SUPP’s focus would be on fighting for Sarawak,” he said.
