KUCHING: Sarawak is prepared to assist Singapore in providing land and energy for the Republic to set up its data centre in the state.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in extending his offer to the heavily urbanised island city-state which lacks space and energy, said; “Singapore and Sarawak are just nice (where the distance is not that far). If you want to have your data centre, come to Sarawak, I (will) give you the space. We can also share our energy with you.

“I had a discussion with the Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister who said that the whole of Singapore can fit into Bakun.”

He said this when officiating at the Asean Australian Engineering Congress (AAEC) 2022 held at Tegas Digital Village (TDV) in Sama Jaya High Tech Park on Tuesday (July 12).

Abang Johari also said Sarawak has four enormous dams with an abundance of hydropower that can generate enough energy through floating solar and hydrogen.

“So, we welcome engineers to come over here and work together to add value to our natural resources.

“The Sarawak government is working on adding value to our natural resources, such as for the production of hydrogen as we are aiming towards the hydrogen and green economy.

“Currently, we have one investor in a plant in Sarawak for carbon sink as Sarawak is embarking on a carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) and carbon storage,” he pointed out.
