KUCHING: Sarawakian who are single and aged 18 and above are encouraged to apply for the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS).

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the criteria for the scheme has been expanded to include singles.

“In order to extend the assistance to more people, I have instructed and expanded the eligibility criteria to include single individuals aged 18 and above who earn an income of less than RM2,500 per month.

“Hopefully, with this move, we can help more people in their rental payment, especially in towns like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, to assist them with the high cost of living,” he said in a short video clip posted on his social media account recently.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said SRAS was introduced in 2021 to assist those to deal with the high cost of living in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“A sum of RM48 million has been allocated for this SRAS, where under the scheme, a subsidy of RM200 per month is offered for up to three years to the applicants.

“So far, the SRAS committee has approved 1,1768 applications involving RM10 million,” he said.
