MIRI: Six victims including a six-year-old child escaped unharmed from their homes during a blaze.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Miri acting chief senior fire Supt Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee said that a team of firefighters from Lopeng station was immediately despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 1.05pm yesterday.

The fire incident happened at Desa Murni, Lorong 2D where one terrace lot was on fire.

“The firemen arrived at the scene and started the extinguishing operation at 1.21pm. Two occupants from the first lot escaped unharmed.

“According to the operation commander, as the operation continued on, the second lot next to the first one also caught fire,” he said.

There were four children in the second lot, aged 16, 14, eight and six. All managed to escape unharmed before the fire spread to their lot, said Nizam.

During the incident, the parents of the four children were not at home, he pointed out.

“The damage on the first lot was extensive, namely about 80 per cent. However, the next lot and others are safe as the firemen were able to control the flame from spreading.

“There were no injuries or casualties reported during the incident and the operation ended at 2.34pm,” Nizam explained.

The cause of the fire and total loss from the incident are still being investigated.
