Six held over a fight in Bekenu

MIRI: Five teenagers and an adult man are being investigated for involvement in a fight in Bekenu on Saturday night (May 1).

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the fight was reported near a grocery store around 9.30 pm.

“Five boys and an adult man aged 16 to 23 were subsequently arrested for their suspected involvement in an unlawful assembly and voluntarily causing hurt,” he said.

They were detained on Sunday (May 2) around 5.50pm.

Prior to the incident, the 16-year-old victim was on his way back with a friend on a motorcycle when they were approached by three suspects.

The victim suffered injuries on his face in the incident.

The suspect was said to have told the victim to stop gossiping about him to the villagers and the victim had denied the allegation.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for riot.
