Six nabbed for suspected involvement in brawl

PADAWAN: The police here have arrested six male suspects involved in a brawl that occurred on Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang.

Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad stated that the arrests, carried out under Operation Cantas, occurred at various locations yesterday evening (Feb 23).

“The suspects, aged between 17 to 42 years old, were detained in separate operations, with the first arrest taking place around 9.10pm in Jalan Batu Kawa Skim Penempatan Desa Wira.

“Two main local suspects were apprehended later at approximately 11.30 pm on Jalan Satok. Additionally, two more suspects were arrested in and around Kuching city,” he said.

All suspects are currently being remanded in Kuching Court for three days to assist in the investigation under Section 6(1) of the Explosives and Dangerous Substances and Weapons Act 1958.

Two of the suspects were found to have extensive criminal records, including drug-related offences.

In a similar development, the Padawan District Police have clarified that the loud noise heard in the viral video depicting a dispute between siblings in the Matang-Batu Kawah area was not a gunshot, but rather a firecracker.

He emphasised that investigations and witness statements corroborate this finding.
