MUKAH: SK Mukah celebrated the World Down Syndrome Day 2017 by holding a Fancy Costume Competition yesterday morning.

Held at the school open hall, the event was officiated by Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Faridah Osman.

With the theme `Extra One, Extra Fund’  the participants were from the special education classes of SK SLDB No.3, SMK Mukah and SK Mukah.

In her speech at the function, Faridah commended the school for holding the event which indicated that the special children (OKUs) are not being neglected by the society.

“This programme can raise awareness among the community that these special children should be given normal treatment,” she said.

Faridah also cited an example of three Malaysian paralympians who made the nation proud by winning three gold medals at the Rio’s Paralympic Games in September last year.

Also present at the event were Mohd Shafeeq Abdullah, who represented Mukah District Education Officer, Haji Bugin Haji Ragoon and SK Mukah Headmaster, Burhanuddin Kaderi.
