SIBU: The flash floods at the Satria residential area, Jalan Oya here have received the attention of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
Deputy chairman Bujang Zainuddin Abdul Majid said SMC had gone to assess the situation last week.
“Residents informed us that flash floods often occurred every time it rained,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 14).
“The complaints usually involved Lorong Satria Timur 3, Satria Timur 5, and Satria Timur 7.”
He explained that SMC’s Works and Traffic Committee would work to identify the problems and work out solutions.
“This includes checking the condition of the drainage system.
“Once the inspection work has been carried out and the cause (flash floods) identified, this matter will be discussed further.
“Besides that, we also asked the housing developer to plan the drainage system when developing the area.”
Bujang said the problem should be resolved as soon as possible as the monsoon season is set to occur later this year.
