SIBU: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Agama here is in dire need of a new dining hall and treated water supply.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said he personally inspected the condition of the school during his visit for sahur with the students there recently.

“The school dining hall is in a poor condition due to the structure of the ground. So, this dining hall is no longer stable. The floor is not very flat and quite narrow.

“The Public Work Department (PWD) has seen the condition of this hall and it has been confirmed that the condition of this hall is not very safe to use,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook account on Friday (April 7).

The Nangka assemblyman said that he has written a letter to Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek regarding the issue so that the ministry will allocate some funds for a new dining hall for the school.

Dr Annuar added that the school also experiences a water supply issue as the water storage barrel can no longer be used due to insufficient maintenance funds.

“The school is experiencing low pressure of water supply and its water storage barrel can no longer be used due to the maintenance problem.

“At the moment, Sibu Water Board (SWB) needs to use a water tanker to supply treated water to the school daily. This is a critical issue for this school and not practical to both the staff and the students,” he said.

He hopes that the ministry will respond to the issue as soon as possible in order to make sure the students can study in a conducive situation.
