SMK Methodist proud to be athlete building

SIBU: SMK Methodist, Sibu is the ‘athlete building’ for the State Sports Council and the National Sports Council.

According to its principal, Philip Ling, this success is evident from the Sarawak Games lll, where many SMK Methodist athletes were selected to represent Sarawak at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) in August this year.

“In the past two or three days, many of our students have been selected to represent the Central Zone in Sarawak Sports III and have achieved tremendous success in almost all types of sports that were contested such as basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, boxing, silat and hockey.

“Well done and congratulations to our athletes who will undergo training to represent the Sukma which will be held in Sarawak in August this year,” Ling said at SMK Methodist ‘s prize-giving ceremony held at the school hall here Saturday (Jan 20).

The ceremony was officiated by the Bishop of Methodist Churches of Malaysia, Dr Lau Hui Ming.

In the academic field, Ling also reminded the students that today’s success is not the end, rather a beginning to do their best in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM).

“Certificates, incentives and awards are a motivation trigger or a platform to keep moving, moving forward to achieve better performance in SPM and STPM later,” Ling added.

Also present was Sibu Deputy District Education Officer, Wong Siew Meng.
