MIRI: A 34-year-old soldier was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly molesting his 10-year-old adopted son.
The suspect was arrested by a team of Miri police around 12.30 pm on Thursday and was produced at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday. He is being remanded for seven days from yesterday to facilitate police investigation into the case.
The arrest was made following on a police report lodged by the victim’s adopted mother a day earlier after the victim told her of the alleged incident while visiting the victim at Miri Hospital.
The victim is being treated at Miri Hospital for injuries he sustained from physical and sexual abused by the suspect. According to a source, when the mother visited the victim in hospital, he had told her what his adopted father had done to him including sexually abusing him.
The source added that since his adopted parents divorced last May the victim has been staying with the suspect. All the alleged incidents happened last month. The offence is framed under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, 2017.
