KUCHING: Those participating in the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), Kuching Branch’s upcoming blood donation campaign will receive a special ‘World Blood Donor Day Donation’ certificate.

The branch’s Blood Donors Recruitment Services chairman, John Jong revealed that the campaign would take place at Aeroville Mall here from 9am to 2.30pm on Sunday (June 12).

“The branch will also give out blood donation car stickers and flyers to educate the public on giving blood to save lives as well as hand sanitisers,” he said on Thursday (June 9).

Jong disclosed that Kuching MRCS had been ranked as No. 1 in blood donor recruitment in Malaysia for many years, adding that 1,409 first-time blood donors registered in the first four months of this year.

He said during the same period, Kuching MRCS collected 7,827 pints of blood for Sarawak General Hospital and other private hospitals.

“In 2021, we collected 21,735 pints of blood and recruited 4,191 new blood donors. Female donors gave a total of 7,823 pints while male donors gave 13,912 pints. The number of female donors has increased over the years because of active campaigning to get more of them registered.
