SIBU: A special workshop to identify the weaknesses as well as improve the Sarawak Central Zone Football League will be held soon says Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The Nangka assemblyman, who is also the patron of the organising committee for the league, also said that among the improvements that had been suggested was the possibility to adjust the starting date of this league for next year.

“Instead of starting in June we might hold it earlier next year,” he said when met by reporters attending the final match between Machan FC and 7DFC at Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibu Jaya on Saturday.

Dr Annuar also said that they also received feedback to change the home away matches starting at the group stage this time to only start at the quarter-final stage.

“Playing in two locations for each team at the group stage is seen as costing quite a lot for each team,” he said.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development also added that the quality of the courts also needed to be given serious attention.

“It is possible that we need to hold a course for referees before the next match is held because the quality of the court is very important to improve the quality of the competition as well,” he said.

The final match for the Sarawak Central Zone Football League was won by Machan FC with a score of 4-2.

Dr Annuar hopeD that the competition could improve the quality of the football game in Sarawak’s Central Zone.

“I also hope that other zones in Sarawak can organise the same league and then create a league for the state of Sarawak,” he said.
