SERIAN: A total of 1,100 parishioners and friends of St Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Council (STPPC) gathered on Dec 29 at SJK Chung Hua Serian Hall here for their year-end fellowship dinner.

Among those in attendance were the guest of honour, Archbishop Simon Poh; Rector Reverend Father Paul Herry, Parish priests, Sisters, Parish Pastoral Council chairman Dennis Sung, special function committee chairman Dennis Edwin, members of the parish’s lay organisations, parishioners and friends.

The dinner commenced after a blessing before meal by Archbishop Simon.

To his surprise, Rector Paul’s birthday was also celebrated at the dinner.

In his address,  the Archbishop reminded parents about  four important points when looking after their children: 1. to educate their children as we need educated people; 2. to open up more Sunday schools so that children can have extra knowledge; 3. keep the Catholic faith so as to keep the children on the right path to the future and 4. look after the youths and find out their needs so as to guide them to the right way of life.

Rector Paul, in his speech, thanked Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot,  Education, Science and Technological Research Minister  Dato Sri Michael Manyin, Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben,  Native Land Development Assistant Minister Datuk Roland Saga and Bukit Simuja assemblyman John Ilus for their grants, and also well-wishers from far and near for their generous donations.

He urged parents to encourage their children to join in the church activities and send them to Sunday schools and kindergartens for better knowledge of God.

In his welcoming speech earlier, chairman Sung urged all the parishioners to reflect upon themselves whether they had been successful in developing the parish.
