KOTA SAMARAHAN: An exciting and experimental immersive theatre experience titled “VII” is set to captivate the audience this weekend.

The event will take place at La Promenade Mall here, marking a unique collaboration between the renowned Malaysian theatre company, “theatrethreesixty,” and students from the Faculty of Creative and Applied Arts at the University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

Project director Christopher Ling said that the development of this extraordinary theatre production was unlike the traditional theatre process, taking only seven days from inception to realisation; in conventional theatre, rehearsals could extend for one to two months.

“The ‘VII’ experience will feature a blend of monologues, physical theatre, and even musical performances throughout the show.

He tstated that this project marked the fourth collaboration between theatrethreesixty and the “What About Kuching” (WAK) festival. Previously, some of their remarkable performances were held at the Old Court House and Think and Tink.

“The aim is to offer audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the intensive creative process involved in crafting a stage play.

“We convened for the first time on Monday (October 23), initiating the ideation process that ranged from scripting to set design.

“This is where the audience will witness the transformation of an idea into a full-fledged stage play,” he added.

Additionally, this project serves as a remarkable opportunity for local performers to interact with seasoned professionals from Kuala Lumpur, including directors, actors, and sound engineers.

Tickets for “VII” will be available for purchase on the opening day of the theatre performance.

theatrethreesixty, founded in March 2014, has garnered widespread acclaim for its productions that have graced stages across Malaysia and Singapore.

The company has been featured at various prominent festivals, including the Kota Kinabalu Arts Festival, the WAK festival, the Kakiseni International Arts Festival, The Other Festival Ipoh, Festival Belia Putrajaya, Gerak Angin Virtual Arts Festival, and the Causeway Exchange Festival in Singapore.
