KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday said that the state government would appeal against the Kuching High Court’s decision to reinstate Dr Ting Tiong Choon as the Pujut state assemblyman.

He revealed that the State Attorney General (AG), Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid would file the appeal.

“He (Talat) will be representing the state government.

“The decision has been made and we respect it. The High Court emphasised more on the points of the law. Hence, we will appeal to the higher court which is the Court of Appeal.”

Johari was interviewed during the Ihsan Ramadan Satok & Fund Presentation at Dewan Hajah Jumaa’ni, SK Rakyat Jalan Haji Bolhassan here yesterday.

He also disclosed that negotiations between the state government and Air Asia on the construction of Kuching’s own Low Cost Carrier Transit (LCCT) were ongoing.

He said that the site had been identified but not confirmed yet. Johari, however, refused to disclose any details of the negotiations.

The Satok state assemblyman also said that there would be a permanent space for traders from Satok Uptown at the Waterfront near the Brooke Dockyard.

“Right now, their temporary venue is the Civic Centre.

“The cost has not been confirmed yet but the project will be managed by Kuching City North Commission (DBKU),” he said.

Earlier on, the Chief Minister handed over Hari Raya contributions to 400 recipients. Half of them were the needy in Satok Constituency while the rest were students from SK Merpati Jepang, SK Rakyat, SK Combined and Sri Satok Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK).
