MIRI: The newly constructed Miri City Health Clinic (Type 2) will soon provide comprehensive healthcare services to the community.

Scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2024 after the delivery and setup of both medical and non-medical equipment, the clinic is expected to provide Miri residents additional healthcare services.

The project, overseen by the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) and executed conventionally by Wisma Sdn Bhd, was completed at a cost of RM26.3 million on June 26.

Federal Deputy Minister of Health (MoH) Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the state-of-the-art health clinic has the capacity to serve 500 to 800 patients daily.

Lukanisman speaks to reporters after officiating at the handover ceremony of the newly constructed Miri City Health Clinic.

“The clinic will offer various services, including outpatient care, emergency and trauma services, maternal and child health, dental care, rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy, X-ray services, medical laboratory facilities, pharmacy services  and nutritional counselling.

“It will also alleviate congestion and reduce waiting times at other healthcare facilities, including the Jalan Merbau Health Clinic (formerly known as the Bandar Miri Health Clinic), the UTC Miri Health Clinic, and the Pujut Community Clinic,” he said when officiating at the handover of the Miri City Health Clinic here today.

He said MoH has approved the creation of 147 new positions to serve at the Miri City Health Clinic.

These positions encompass a wide array of roles, ensuring that the facility is staffed with the necessary expertise and support.

Among the newly created positions are two family medicine specialists, 26 medical officers, and an extensive selection of clinical support roles, including medical assistant officers, nurses, dietitians, occupational therapy officers, physiotherapists, and many more (82 positions).

Additionally, the Sibuti MP said there are 37 other support positions to further enhance the clinic’s operations.

On a related note, Lukanisman said standing in the backdrop of this health clinic is the forthcoming Miri Hospital.

Currently in the construction phase, the Miri Hospital is poised to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2024.

He added that Sarawakians can look forward to the establishment of several new health clinics following the approval of the 2024 budget, expected to be passed in late November.
