KUCHING: Sarawak should consider forming its own State Labour Advisory Council (SLAC) to review and study the future human resources development plan for the state, said Mohamad Ibrahim Hamid.

The Union Network International-Malaysian Labour Council (UNI-MLC) vice president in a statement yesterday (September 1) said this would help tackle unemployment issues in the state.

“It will also refrain Sarawakians from seeking employment opportunities outside the state,” he said in a statement.

His remarks were prompted by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent speech during the National Day State Celebration in Mukah on Thursday (August 31).

Ibrahim also expressed full agreement with the focus on economic development and unity at the national level.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that the state government had made substantial investments in various sectors, including digital development, physical infrastructure, human resources, education, renewable energy, and participation in the oil and gas industry.

“These efforts are aimed at stimulating the state’s economy, leading to increased revenue and the creation of well-paying jobs,” he added.
