SIBU: A car parked in a parking area at Tie Chai Yong Building at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here was partially damaged after it caught fire.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, upon receiving a call of the incident at 4.27 am the firefighters from the Sibu Central fire station were deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the engine and front seats of a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) had caught fire,” it said in a statement yesterday.

The fire was under control at 4.34 pm and was fully extinguished some minutes later.

About 20 per cent of the car was damaged.

“No injuries were reported in the incident and the cause of the fire and the total losses are still being investigated,” it added.

After ensuring that the situation was safe, the firefighters concluded the operation at 5.14 am.
