KUCHING: Members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok have been called to uphold their dedication and commitment to serving the community.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said this is because the party branch is being seen as an example for other PBB branches throughout the state.

“When we continue our cooperation with one another, our future is bright; PBB Satok will remain respected. What we do and our actions are regarded as a barometer of success by other branches,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the PBB Satok Women’s Wing Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Kampung Bandarsah here last night (May 6).

At the same time, he said, the value of coexistence among one another has been a pillar of PBB, which enables the party to obtain support from members of the public.

“We can see the hard work of party members at the branch level along with the support of its Women and Youth wings,” he said.

The PBB Satok Women’s Wing, he said, has also worked tirelessly, always on the ground, come rain or shine, including rendering assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With the assistance of the main body and the Youth wing, we work together, side by side, and with our strength, we are a force to be reckoned with,” he said.

Ibrahim also said the Women’s Wing of PBB Satok was instrumental in drumming up support from the grassroots during elections, which ensured victory for their candidates by a comfortable margin.

“During the previous state election, the Women’s Wing had gone from house to house to campaign on my behalf, and I was able to win by a large majority; both my opponents lost their deposits,” he said.

He also recalled that during his earlier involvement with PBB Satok, starting in 1985, he had served alongside three women chiefs, all of whom were devoted to the party’s struggles.

“Because the struggle is not to serve ourselves but to serve others and to unite and make sacrifices to uphold PBB. We coexist together, and that is our strength,” he said.

On a related note, he reminded party branch members to continue to heed party discipline and uphold its struggles as outlined by the party’s constitution.

Earlier, PBB Satok Women chief Salina Mohammad Salleh said the programme was aimed at fostering closer relationships among the community in Satok.

“It is hoped that the unity among the people in Satok will remain strong. Visiting one another (during Aidilfitri) has been a hallmark of the diverse Malaysian society.

“We must maintain this tradition so that harmony can be preserved,” she said.

Among those present were also Ibrahim’s wife Datin Noor Akmar Hamdan, PBB Satok deputy division chief and Kuching South deputy mayor Hilmy Othman, political secretaries to the Premier Abdul Samat Gany and Dayang Nurfizawati Abang Abdul Karim, and political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie.
