BAKU, Azerbaijan: Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal, President of the Senate, led a Malaysian delegation to visit President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Monday (April 29) with the main focus being strengthening bilateral relations and promote dialogue between the two countries.

The visit aimed to enhance cooperation in various areas of common interest, including energy, economy, and foreign affairs.

During the meeting, Ilham expressed gratitude to Mutang for leading his delegation at the “6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue”.

This visit and participation in the forum showcased Malaysia’s commitment to deepening its ties with Azerbaijan. Both parties expressed interest in expanding and deepening cooperation, recognizing the importance of bilateral relations.

Notably, as the host of the upcoming “UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29)”, Azerbaijan extended an invitation to Malaysia to attend the conference.

Ilham and the Malaysian delegation agreed that like-minded countries, such as Azerbaijan and Malaysia, should discuss relevant agendas together before COP29 begins.

This collaboration ensures that the voices and interests of these countries are heard in the global discussions on climate change.

Ilham emphasised the significance of solidarity among Islamic countries and expressed hopes for increased economic activities between Malaysia and Azerbaijan, which would further strengthen their bilateral relations.

The aim is to create more opportunities for companies from both countries to collaborate and leverage their economic potential.

The Malaysian delegation, led by Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal, is currently in Baku, Azerbaijan, participating in the “6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue” from May 1 to May 3.

This forum serves as a platform to foster intercultural understanding and further strengthen the ties between Malaysia and Azerbaijan.

Overall, the primary focus of the courtesy visit and subsequent discussions is to enhance bilateral cooperation, promote dialogue between cultures, and ensure the interests of like-minded countries are represented in global discussions, including the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference.
