MIRI: A Form Two student was killed after he was hit by a car while crossing the road at Jalan Miri-Kuala Baram here, yesterday morning.
In the incident that occurred at around 11.30am, the victim, Leonard Standly, 14, from Bandar Baru Permyjaya, died at the scene due to serious head and bodily injuries.
Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the accident occurred while the victim and two of his friends were crossing the road.
He said the victim was said to be in a hurry to cross the road after seeing his friends had already crossed the road before he was hit by a Nissan car with Brunei registration plate number.
“At the time of the incident, the car driver was heading to Brunei from Miri,” he said here.
Stanley said the body was taken to Miri for a post mortem and the police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
