ALLEGED DEFAMATION

KUCHING: Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Datuk Richard Wee has filed a suit against Michael Kong, special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, for his recent alleged defamatory remarks.

Wee’s counsel Shankar Ram Asnani said he had sent a copy of the writ and statement of claim to Kong’s law firm, Chong Brothers Advocates.

The writ and statement of claims had also been sent to Kong via email which he (Kong) should have by now received it, he added.

He said it was up to Kong to file his defence and that they would deal with him on the matter in court.

“Our client is very aggrieved by the alleged defamatory remarks made against him by Kong. He views the allegations as unjust, unfounded, and calculated to cause irreparable harm to his good family’s name and business reputation,” said Shankar.

Kong had allegedly made the remarks in his Facebook Page on July 21.

Kong, when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune, said: “Apparently they have served the writ on me and sent it to my firm but I’ve yet to receive it, so I cannot comment.”
