KUCHING: Sarawak contingent will send Muaythai athletes bound for the Sukma 2018 to take part in the Borneo Cup Muaythai Championship 2017 to be held in Sabah from May 6 to 7.

The president of Muaythai Association of Sarawak (PMNS) Haji Jumaat Ibrahim said a total of 12 athletes will take up the challenge, with all of them being athletes in the Sukma 2018 squad.

“A total of 12 athletes are listed for the competition, most of them are athletes for Sukma 2018 who will also compete in Sarawak Games(SUKSAR) 2017,” said Jumaat on Thursday.

He said of the total, three of them namely Ranti Niza Jina (45-48kg category), Norashikin Asmandi (48-51kg category) and Aurora Xing Hua Chai (51-54kg category) will compete in the women’s category.

Meanwhile, the Men’s category will be represented by Prtasara Punniyamoorthy (45-48kg category), Abdul Hadi Jamil (48-51kg category), Elias Ghazali Zulfikar (51-54kg category), Kabilan Jelevan (54-57kg category), Morris Hii Zhen Wei (57-60kg category), Heendrew Lois Rekan (60-63.5kg category), Lu Yi Ran (63.5-67kg category) and Mohd Eswandy Hassan (67-71kg category).

Earlier on Thursday, the presentation of the state flag to the athletes was officiated by permanent secretary of Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Kameri Haji Afandi in his office, here.

Kameri hoped that the Muaythai athletes will bring home at least five gold medals from each category.
