KUCHING: The Sarawak People’s United Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch has questioned whether the Democratic Action Party (DAP) will continue to support Datuk Anwar Ibrahim to take over as prime
minister.

Branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok (pic) said a few days ago Party Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) council member, Tan Sri Rais Yatim, shockingly said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir’s successor is Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin and Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not have any written agreement that Anwar will be the successor.

He said that Dr Mahathir has changed his stand on his tenure as PM from the previous two years to three years.

“Isn’t it embarrassing that DAP has not responded to Rais Yatim’s remarks so far. If Rais’ words are unfounded or not accurate, DAP should say something and ask for correction.

“However, the DAP and other members of the PH coalition have been quiet, which could be taken to mean that Rais’ statement is true, that is, the Anwar-as-PM succession plan has being changed,” said Sim.

Sim added that another possibility why DAP is quiet is because it does not dare to offend the leader of Bersatu or criticise any action of any leader of the party.

After all, he said, Mahathir is the head of Bersatu and PH, and he’s the PM, so DAP has to toe the
coalition line.

Chairman of Sarawak PH who is also chairman of Sarawak DAP, Chong Chieng Jen, should tell the people whether they continue to support Anwar to take over the prime minister’s post in two years’ time.

If he supports Anwar, then he should rebuke Rias for his remarks.
