KUCHING: Secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting has revealed that Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has finalised the candidates for the seven parliamentary seats in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

According to Ting, the names of the candidates would be forwarded to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) top leadership.

“We will leave it to the GPS chairman, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to finalise and announce the names,” he told the media here on Wednesday (Oct 12).

He added that SUPP would also be fielding new faces, made of young leaders.

When pressed further on whether or not Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem would defend his seat, Ting said SUPP had nominated him to defend the seat in GE15. “He’s the incumbent for Serian, so the answer is yes. The party will nominate him, definitely.”

SUPP is allocated seven parliamentary seats – Serian, Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Miri, Sarikei, Sibu and Lanang.

Earlier last month, SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian also confirmed that Riot would contest in GE15 but did not mention whether or not he would defend his Serian seat.

For the record, SUPP contested in the seven seats in GE14 but only won Serian.
