Supt Tan: Miri GOF ready for flood operations

MIRI: The 12th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) here is placing its assets and personnel on standby mode for relief missions to face the possibility of the year-end flood in areas of the state’s northern region

Commanding Officer of 12th Battalion GOF Miri Superintendent Tan Hiap Seng said 26 of its personnel comprising various ranks and 40 types of assets are on standby mode for any possibility of flood, should the year-end flood situation took a turn for the worse.

He added that these personnel and assets will be used in areas of the state’s northern region like Miri, Bintulu, Limbang and Lawas.

Supt Tan disclosed this after he attended the monthly assembly of 12th Battalion GOF Miri yesterday morning.

“Anytime when they want us we will mobilise our men and logistics,” said Tan.

Also present during the monthly assembly was Commander of Sarawak GOF Brigade, SAC Dato’ Khaw Kok Chin.

SAC Dato’ Khaw in his speech reminded GOF personnel to enhance their efficiency in order to achieve ‘World Class’ policing.

He added that law enforcement has become increasingly complex and challenging and public’s expectations of police officers are becoming increasingly demanding.

“Hence, in order to have a better police service and improve the service, the present government has established the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) to help monitor the police force,” he said.

At the monthly assembly, a total 41 recipients including three members of the local media namely The New Sarawak Tribune, Sin Chew Daily News and Radio Television Malaysia Miri received certificates of appreciation from Miri GOF presented by SAC Dato’ Khaw.

Also present was Miri GOF Deputy Commanding Officer, DSP Uchong Sigan.
