KUCHING: The Sarawak Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) are behind their federal counterpart’s president Datuk Azih Muda, who has urged the federal government to formulate the National Stress Management Policy.

Sarawak Cuepacs president Ahmad Malie opined that such a move would be able to deal with cases of civil servants suffering from work stress.

“With the establishment of the policy, we hope that the welfare of civil servants in terms of mental health can be protected.

“If this stress issue is not under control, we are worried that the number of cases will increase, which could affect work performance,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

On Oct 23, Azih called upon the federal government to formulate the policy to protect the welfare of civil servants, specifically in terms of mental health.

He revealed that the results of studies by several universities and independent bodies found that over 400,000 civil servants in the country faced stress caused by various factors such as work environment, directives given by employers, financial costs and workload.

Touching on this, Ahmad chipped in, “We are of the same opinion that stress cases among civil servants should be given due attention by the government accordingly.”

“If the government ignores the call by Cuepacs, we believed the cases will affect the performances of civil servants,” he added.
