S’wak explores digital advancement in telecommunications

BARCELONA: Sarawak is exploring potential collaborations with industry experts and players from the telecommunications industry to enhance the state’s communications sector.

Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi has invited professionals and industry players to the World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2023, which will be held in Kuching from October 4 to 6, 2023.

During a luncheon event organised by the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) in Barcelona, Spain to leverage the Mobile World Congress (MWC23), held on yesterday (Feb 26), the minister in his keynote speech highlighted the importance of bringing together experts in the telecommunications industry.

MWC23 is the largest and most influential event for the connectivity and mobile communications sector where professionals and industrial players meet.

Julaihi highlighted Sarawak’s digitalisation journey and how Sarawak embraced digital transformation with sustainability in mind.

He reiterated the importance of the advancement of Sarawak’s digital economy transformation, the provision of telecommunication infrastructure and services, as well as the development of a digital talent and an innovation ecosystem that will support Sarawak’s digital agenda.

The luncheon showcased what Sarawak has to offer, particularly through SDEC, to their existing and potential partners, and potential collaborators.

The event was attended by 60 participants from varying industries globally.

Among international industry players present were ZTE Corporation, Baicells Technologies, SES Satellites, Whale Cloud, Erisson, AirSpan Networks, Huawei Technologies, and others.

Among those present at the luncheon were Julaihi’s deputy ministers, Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; the ministry’s permanent secretary Jafri Lias; SDEC chief executive officer Sudarnoto Osman; and officers from the state attorney-general chambers (SAG), Sarawak Information Network System (SAINS) and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
