KUCHING: Sarawak hopes to earn a whopping RM8.79 billion in tourism revenue from five million visitors in 2019.
The revenue is expected to contribute seven percent to Sarawak’s GDP.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) last night unveiled plans to attract record revenue from a targeted five million tourists.
He said that the state government would continue to work with the local airlines to enable special routes from Kuching to other countries.
The state government will improve its infrastructure to make Sarawak an attractive place, he said.
He said Sarawak would set up its own trade offices in Singapore, Brunei, and Pontianak in Indonesia to promote the state within the Asian hub.
“We are currently working to enhance the connectivity between Sarawak and other destinations as well as upgrading the infrastructure such as museums and national parks,” he said when officiating at the New Year 2019 Countdown and launching the ‘Visit Sarawak’ campaign at Kuching Waterfront.
He said tourists who come to Sarawak will definitely want to come back, because our people are friendly and they admire the unique culture.
Earlier, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said the campaign would focus on its three main core objectives, namely visibility of ‘Brand Sarawak’ in the international and domestic markets; inculcating into locals a sense of belonging towards tourism attractions, and providing excellent tourism products, services and giving tourists value for money.
“The decision to have ‘More to Discover’ as the tagline is to shout out to the world that Sarawak has more to offer than anyone could imagine,” he said.
