KUCHING: Matters related to environmental management under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have now been devolved to the Sarawak government.

“With the devolution, Sarawak is now also responsible for the management of scheduled waste,” Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali told reporters after a charity event by Centexs Commercial held at Juma’ani Pavillion yesterday (Apr 5).

Hasidah added that matters related to scheduled waste will be specifically examined by the Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).

“As for the devolution, transfer of knowledge has to be done at the officers’ level to ensure all the details are sorted between the ministries.

“The progress is going on smoothly, I am confident because we have competent officers, officials, civil servants to carry out the tasks,” she added.

Hasidah who is also the Semariang assemblywoman hoped that the parties involved would continue the discussions on scheduled waste.
