SIBU: The four-flight weekly direct passenger air service between Singapore and Sibu which started on Friday (Dec 16) was well received by not only residents in the town but also Sibu leaders.

It is expected to not only introduce the swan city but also further expand the town’s economy as well as its tourism industries locally and internationally.

The third sector to Singapore from Sarawak besides Kuching and Miri which operates four times weekly, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, also seems to cut travel cost for people wanting to visit Singapore.

Here are some views on the new direct flight from Sibu to Singapore.

“I hope they will continue the flight Singapore-Sibu. I’m from Sibu, and now traveling is much easier, I came back to Sibu with my family from Abu Dhabi. This new flight is a very convenient way of going back from overseas. Instead of connecting your flight to Kuala Lumpur now, you can connect your flight to Singapore as well,” he said.

“The direct flight from Singapore-Sibu is a welcome initiative. It can shorten our journey, instead of stopping by Kuching we can directly fly to Singapore. It only takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. Besides, I think the flight also will help in strengthening tourism and economic activities.

Apart from that, the ticket fare seems to be affordable and cheaper compared to when you need to stop in Kuching to travel to Singapore,” she said.

“With the new flight, we are expecting more tourists to come to Sibu, especially next year. Hence, I urge all Sibu people to be ready to welcome all these visitors. We don’t just hope for the flight to come and do nothing. We from Sibu must be prepared for this new visitor. This will be a new start for the town,” he said.

“There are a lot of our local residents, students, businessmen, and travellers who want to travel to Singapore. However, due to flight limitation and no connecting flight from Sibu to Singapore which resulted in them staying overnight in Kuching and so on it was a bit costly for them. So, with this direct international flight, they will be able to save some costs. Meanwhile, for the town, this flight will be important to further expand our economy and culture internationally or precisely to Singapore,” he said.
