SIBU: Swift action by firefighters prevented a sawmill here from total destruction after a fire broke out in the wee hours of Thursday (Oct 21).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters were rushed to the factory located along Jalan Sungai Engkilo here after a distress call was received at 2.54am.
Firefighters at the scene reported that the blaze had destroyed 10 percent of the wood piles as well as the machines.
“There were no fire hydrants at the location and water had to be pumped from a nearby river.”
The fire was brought under control at around 4.56am.
“No casualties were reported in the incident and the operation ended at 7.26am.”
