SIBU: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) has distributed financial aid totalling RM127,699 to 260 recipients here.
TBS general manager Datuk Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie distributed the aid during Majlis Iftar Perdana Bersama Asnaf at the Sibu Islamic Complex here last night (Mar 22).
Mohd Shibli said the aid is intended to ease the burden of the recipients during the month of Ramadan and in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya.
“This assistance can also serve as additional financial aid to the Tahfiz Centre in carrying out activities throughout the month of Ramadan,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, on the overall assistance activities by TBS, he said that as of February 29, 2024, TBS has distributed a total of RM16.32 million to eligible Asnaf through its four main programmes.
“The programmes namely Strengthening Knowledge Traditions Programme, Developing Islamic Institutions Programme, Enhancing Ummah Welfare Programme, and Ummah Skills Enhancement Programme,” he added.
Guests for the breaking of the fast meal included those from the asnaf group and tahfiz students.
In Islam, asnaf refers to those entitled to receive tithes such as the destitute, Muslim converts, tithe collectors, orphans, and single mothers.
Among those present were TBS Deputy General Manager Bolhassan Iskandar Taibi, TBS Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs Sector Iskandar Allan, TBS Deputy Head of Operations Sector Ustaz Mond Yusree Mohd Zain, TBS Sibu Division Chief Siti Azliyani Jasini.
