Taekwondo competition attracts 500 exponents

KUCHING: Some 500 exponents from all over the state converged on Petra Jaya here last weekend to compete in the Sarawak Taekwondo Championships.

Stadium Perpaduan was the venue of the competition organised by Sarawak Taekwondo Association (STA-WTF) and Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).

Among the categories contested were Poomsae (pattern) and Kyorugi (sparring).

“It is heartening indeed to see the huge number of exponents from throughout the state competing for honours in this annual event,” said STA president Azizul Annuar Adenan in a statement released yesterday.

“We are also preparing for and targeting gold in the Premier of Sarawak Borneo Cup Championships scheduled to take place from Aug 18-20 in Kuching,” he added.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu officiated at the closing ceremony.
