Taib and Raghad attend UNIMAS’ iftar ceremony

SAMARAHAN: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib attended the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) iftar ceremony at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre (PITAS) yesterday (Mar 29).

The ceremony is an annual event held by the university to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan with all campus staff and students, as well as the local community around Kota Samarahan.

Abdul Taib, who is also UNIMAS chancellor, presented donations in the form of cash amounting to RM1,000 from the university to four mosques in Kota Samarahan and one non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The recipients were Masjid Darul Istiqamah Kampung Niup, Masjid Darul Falah Kampung Tanah Putih, Masjid Darul Islam Bersatu Kampung Melayu, Masjid Darul Islam Wal Muslimin Kampung Naie and Baitul Ihtiman.

Abdul Taib and Raghad also performed the maghrib, isya’ and tarawih prayers together with other Muslim guests.

Among those present were UNIMAS board of directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Panglima Sulong Matjeraie and vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi.
