Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud

KUCHING: The family of former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will hold Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib entirely accountable and responsible should any harm befall him.

On Sunday, February 4, his brother, Datuk Mohammad Tufail Mahmud, filed a police report at the Kuching central police station.

In the report, Tufail claimed that his niece, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, had provided him with a copy of a police report authored by Taib’s attending resident Medical Officer, Dr. Mohd Nazrin Jefri, at Normah Medical Hospital.

“According to the report, my sister-in-law Ragad removed all medication attached to my brother without alerting the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff at the hospital and forcibly removed or abducted my brother from the hospital.

“Despite being advised that he was required to stay at the hospital for proper and adequate treatment and that her actions may cause him harm,” he said.

Tufail said the removal was against hospital advice without consulting the medical staff or obtaining the approval of his family. He stated that none of the siblings nor the children of Taib know of his current whereabouts and the current condition of his health.

“In light of the above, my brother’s medical condition and Dr Nazrin’s report, myself and my family are gravely concerned about the health and safety of my brother.

“I make this report for the police to urgently investigate the matter and to safeguard and protect the wellbeing of my brother,” he said.

On February 5, police confirmed receiving a report regarding Taib’s departure from a private specialist hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Sarawak police commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata, stated that the incident is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code, concerning negligence that may jeopardise the safety of others.
