Taib’s remains arrives at Demak Jaya

KUCHING: The remains of the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud arrived at his residence in Demak Jaya, Jalan Bako, around 5.10pm on Wednesday, accompanied by Taib’s widow, Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib.

Shortly after, a funeral prayer (solat jenazah) was conducted, attended by family members, relatives, and close friends. Approximately 70 individuals paid their final respects, with some arriving as early as 3pm.

The atmosphere was solemn with dignitaries seen shedding tears and embracing each other.

Among those in attendance included Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, and Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The late Tun Taib’s children were also present: Jamilah Hamidah Taib, Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, and Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

Tun Taib was first married to the late Datuk Amar Laila Taib in 1959; she passed away in 2009.

On December 18, 2010, at the age of 74, he married again to his current wife, Ragad.
