KUCHING: Aquaponic and hydroponic farming has gained much traction in recent years and in the Batu Kawah area the modern urban farming trend is thriving.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, one of its biggest proponents, has now called on residents in and outside the constituency to visit the modern urban farms there to see and learn how it can be done.

“People always talk about modern urban farming. In Batu Kawah, we have examples of modern urban farming such as aquaponic and hydroponic farming which also help to achieve zero pollution.

“Through this you produce soilless vegetables. And over here, not only you can find vegetables, but also grapes and all sorts of plants,” he said in his video message posted on his Telegram channel on Today (July 11).

Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, therefore hopes more people will go into this type of modern urban farming.

“Come to Batu Kawah to see for yourself, indeed we can have organic modern farming and produce organic vegetables,” he said.

He added that consumption of organic vegetables is good for one’s health.

In a separate video message, he said besides the modern urban farm, visitors to Batu Kawah can also find fish farms, orchard farms, and the Borneo Happy farm – agro-tourism farm.

“Please come to visit Batu Kawah and discover Batu Kawah (on what it has to offer),” said Dr Sim.
