MIRI: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officers here have seized a tanker for anchoring off the coast of Miri without any permission.

Miri MMEA director Captain Maritime Mohd Shafie Paing said eight crew on board the vessel, comprising a local skipper and seven Myanmar nationals aged between 22 and 53 years-old, were also detained southwest of Kuala Bakam on Sunday night.

“ The seven Myanmar crew failed to produce any valid documents when inspected by MMEA enforcement officers,” he said in a statement.

Maritime Malaysia welcomes information from the maritime community on any illegal activities and emergencies at sea directly to the MERS 999 line or the Miri Maritime Zone Operations Centre (085-4183204) / Sarawak State Maritime Operations Centre (082- 432544) which operates 24 hours.
