KUCHING: Self-regulation in local areas is not a new thing as Tasik Biru constituents embarked on the initiative since the beginning of the movement control order (MCO) implementation.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep stated that there is already early awareness by respective village chiefs and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) in the effort of breaking the chain of the Covid-19 spread.

“The village chiefs and JKKKs have taken their initiative to prevent any outsiders from coming into their respective villages. Some even put up signboards, banners and the likes, especially in areas of public interest like hiking places, tourist spots, etc. These places have been blocked and no visitors are allowed in.

“So far, it has been effective and people seemed to be cooperative too as the awareness among the people are high on compliance to the MCO. They are also working closely with the agencies to make sure the public abide with the MCO,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

He was responding to a recent announcement by Senior Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Sunday who said the federal government encourages the community to self-regulate themselves during the MCO such as setting up their own barriers to restrict movement into their villages and longhouses to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Ismail mentioned that such initiative is good as it will ensure the health and safety of the people as well as to maintain the community that is devoid of any cases and is under the green zone.

To this, Henry hoped the people will continue to observe the directives of ‘Stay at home’, ‘Stay safe’ and ‘Kita jaga kita’.
