KUCHING: The Ministry of Education (MoE) developed the Sarawak Dual Language Programme (DLP) in response to the shifting demands for qualified workers in sectors that are quickly evolving.

Batu Lintang Teacher Education Institute campus director, Dr Lambat Lindong said the programme increases the percentage of students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) streams.

The responsibility is entrusted to IPGK Batu Lintang, IPGK Rajang and IPGK Sarawak to implement the ongoing programme in six zones, namely Kuching, Sri Aman, Mukah, Sibu, Bintulu and Limbang.

“A total of 650 teachers are involved, 20 lecturers, including retired lecturers who are willing to continue contributing to this programme,” he said.

Lambat added that the implementation of DLP Sarawak will be made easier with rich reference materials available in English in the fields of science, mathematics, and interdisciplinary STEM education.

“IPGK Batu Lintang will continue to commit and help the Sarawak government, especially in the development of education by collaborating with experts in the field,” he added.
